The Registered Nurse in a school setting reports to the Health Services Coordinator, Direct Supervisor · Administrator, Principal or as designated by the district. All duties are performed in accordance with district/state board of education policies and procedures, and state law regarding nursing practice. The Registered School Nurse Duties would be :-

  • to provide direct nursing services, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff members.
  • administering medication with relevant documentation.
  • preservation of accurate medical records in compliance with state mandates that include immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, and related archival responsibilities.
  • the ability to perform mandatory vision and hearing screening procedures.
  • as an authorized reporter, to make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect.
  • to maintain communication with the teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to strengthen cooperative actions which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
  • providing health services, information, and counseling in a beneficial and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
  • to complete accident/incident reports for students and staff.
  • compilation of data for statistical purposes.
  • keeping confidential in regards to all school health-related issues. 
  • maintaining a daily account of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records.
  • to conserve the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.
  • proper utilization of existing technology for the performance of duties.
  • performing other healthcare related work as required. 
  • maintaining correspondence with a professional nursing organization, and utilizing continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge.
  • participation as an active member of the school community in representing health and wellness.
  • Required Qualifications & Licensures  :-

  • Baccalaureate Degree preparation in Nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Current certification in a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Program.
  • Experience in Nursing, as well as completion of a School Health Orientation Program is preferred.
  • Illinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing screening technician.
  • Computer literate and proficiency in usage of existing technology. 
  • Hourly pay is in accordance with the Educational Support Personnel Schedule.
